Women's car insurance could get cheaper as crime rates fall
Tue, 21 Jun 2005

Falling crime rates could lead to cheaper car insurance for female motorists.

According to the Eastern Daily Press, a new community safety scheme in Norfolk has helped to reduce levels of car crime in the area and as a result insurance premiums for local residents could fall.

The Yarmouth's safer community initiative has seen a substantial drop in vehicle crime and burglary over the past 12 months, with levels in the Nelson and Regent wards of Yarmouth, failing by 54.2 per cent from January 2004 to January 2005.

Chief Superintendent Ray Adcock said: "This scheme provides a model for the future and we're trying desperately to requisition enough resources to support this across the borough.

"There's a matter of cost involved but there's a bigger cost in doing nothing. I don't remember Yarmouth being this positive for over 20 years."

The increased use of CCTV and on-street policing is helping to not only reduce female motor premiums, but also making women living in the area feel more at ease.
