Women's car insurance to cover "responsible" repairs
Tue, 21 Jun 2005

Women's car insurance could help meet the cost of ensuring vehicles are repaired safely.

Recent research by the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) discovered that many cars are not being repaired correctly as garages continue to cut costs and corners.

The TSI submitted a total of 88 cars for service at a wide range of franchise dealers and independent garages, however, just 21 were repaired to a satisfactory level. Worryingly 36 per cent of the vehicles were returned to TSI officers with major faults such as brake failure and non-working headlights.

Ron Gainsford, the chief executive of the TSI, said: "This is a dreadful situation."

"It's not just that consumers are suffering by paying for work which hasn't been done properly - vehicles can be left unsafe, with the increased risk of accidents leading to people being injured or even killed."

Women shopping around for car insurance are encouraged to ensure that their insurance cover will enable repairs to be carried out by a reputable and reliable garage.
