Women's car insurance an essential part of summer driving
Mon, 13 Jun 2005

Women are being advised to ensure that their car insurance policies are up-to-date before the forthcoming summer.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) is highlighting the need for motorists to ensure that their vehicles are fully prepared for the increased number of journeys taken over the hot summer months.

"After months of winter driving, when trips in the car are often short, long summer journeys can be hard for a car," warns Ian Davis-Knight, head of MOT technical operations for the RMI.

"If a vehicle has not been properly looked after, problems could arise."

Drivers are also being advised to make sure that their in-car cooling systems are fully operational in order to avoid being stranded at the side of the road on a hot summer's day.

Other vehicle components such as tyres may have become neglected during the cooler months and motorists must ensure that they meet minimal safety standards of at least 1.6 mm depth across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tread.

Failure to ensure cars are in roadworthy condition could not only delay holiday getaways but also lead to a accident resulting in extra hassle and increased premiums.
