Women's car insurance should not be forgotten in pursuit of celebrity lifestyle
Wed, 29 Jun 2005

Women are being reminded to ensure they budget for car insurance and not just designer handbags.

Last year, women spent a total of £3.5 billion on credit cards in an attempt to keep up with trend-setting stars, according to a report by Virgin Money Credit Card.

Female motorists need to ensure that they don't forget to shop around for car insurance cover otherwise they could risk having to blow their annual shopping budget on expensive repairs.

"Women still feel pressured to emulate celebrity style this year," said Scott Mowbray, of Virgin Money credit cards.

"While it's nice to treat ourselves, we need to keep our quest for perfection in perspective and live within our financial means"

The average women reduced their shopping outgoings from £713 to £500 during 2004, although a total of £484 million was spent on designer handbags and shoes, £898 million on hairstyling, and £138 million on fake tans.
