Women's car insurance not a joke
Thu, 10 Nov 2005
Scientists have discovered that the two genders have varying opinions of humour but the fact remains that there is nothing amusing about women's car insurance. Scientists at Stanford University have conducted research which concludes that men and women have different tastes in humour. The study monitored brain activity when men and women looked at funny cartoons and concluded that language processing, memory and generating reward feelings were more present in females. The research is hoping to understand the issue of depression as well as medical conditions that involve a loss of movement control. It appears that women place a greater emphasis on the language of humour and were generally less likely to find the cartoons amusing so were more pleased when they did. Lead researcher Professor Allan Reiss said: "Women appeared to have less expectation of a reward, which in this case was the punch line of the cartoon. "So when they got to the joke's punch line, they were more pleased about it," he added. However, women are being advised not to have low expectations when it comes to car insurance and shop around to ensure they get a policy which represents good value.
