Women's car insurance may protect from paying for other people's accidents
Wed, 12 Oct 2005

Shopping around for the best deal on car insurance could stop women having to pay for other drivers' accidents.

Research by Privilege Insurance estimates that the average motorist is forced to pay an additional £200 a year to cover poor driving from other road users.

The £200 figure includes associated costs such as damage to property, police and medical bills. However, nearly nine out of ten "safe" drivers believe that they should not have to pay this additional cost because they have built up at least four years of no claim motoring.

"Safe drivers, who have had four or more years of claim free motoring, clearly feel penalised by the current road tax system which sees them contribute to covering the cost of accidents which they have neither caused or been involved in," said Ian Parker, managing director of Privilege Insurance.

Women are being encouraged to look around for specialist insurance cover that will enable them to save on their annual premium costs and therefore reduce the burden of paying for other people's accidents.
