Women's car insurance saving could free up even more cash for luxuries
Thu, 15 Sep 2005
Thanks to a number of factors, such as the huge savings they can make on car insurance, British women today have far much money to spend than they did 20 years ago. Marks & Spencer (M&S) Money's Female Price Index found that the modern British woman has as much as 50 per cent more to spend than her counterpart from 1985. The report shows that women these days are far more likely to treat themselves to luxuries such as holidays, eating out and high quality products. "Our Female Price Index shows a nation of women increasingly free to treat and reward themselves," said David MacKay, commercial director of M&S Money. "Womens spending power is also reflected in their demand for our range of financial products, as over three quarters of our credit and loyalty card customers are female. "Indeed they have greater influence than ever before over household finances, with a third of todays women being wholly financially independent." The modern woman is also more likely to own her own car, holiday in more exotic climes and have meals at expensive restaurants. The Female Price Index also shows that the wage gap between women and men has shrunk by eight per cent since 1985.
