Women car drivers want new road signs
Thu, 22 Sep 2005

Female drivers, as well as their male counterparts, are becoming increasingly frustrated by dated and irrelevant road signs, a new report suggests.

Research from Virgin Money Car Insurance shows that around half of British motorists think there are too many signs positioned along Britain's road sides, while nearly a third claim they are unable to read them because they find them too confusing.

Researchers also found that many drivers consider many road signs to be irrelevant, providing information that is outdated and unhelpful.

Jason Wyer Smith of Virgin Money Car Insurance commented "It seems busy roads are not the only bugbear of drivers; road side conditions and signage also frustrate drivers.

"Our poll shows that there is definitely an argument for addressing the relevance of signs on our roads today."

The report found that only one in ten drivers are satisfied with the road signs in their area.

Respondents also took time to make some tongue-in-cheek suggestions for more useful, modern road signs, such as warnings for boy racer zones, ridiculously big four-wheel drives clogging up small urban roads, over expensive petrol and sneaky speed traps.
