Uninsured driver face three-year jail term
Nov 7 04
An uninsured driver has been convicted of killing a grandmother and jailed for three years following a tragic accident involving a high-performance car.
Derryck Mumberson, from south east London, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was handed a ban for eight years as well as the jail term.
Police reported that Mr Mumberson was driving at "grossly excessive speed" in a 30 mph zone, with later inquiries revealing that he was test driving a friendŐs car.
Mr Muberson had no car insurance and failed to produce a licence on arrest.
The judge said the defendant's remorse had mitigated the sentence but said that he had needlessly taken a life and must face the consequences.
