Speed camera maps don't remove need for women's car insurance
Tue, 28 Jun 2005
The latest speed camera maps do not remove the need for female motorists to purchase car insurance.
The motoring organisation AA has published the first road atlas that shows the locations of speed cameras across the UK in a bid to improve road safety.
The new maps detail the locations of around 3,000 fixed speed cameras and a further 3,000 mobile speedtrap spots.
AA spokeswoman Nicola Atkinson defended the move claiming that it would lead to a safer road network: "We have done this because we believe people should know where the cameras are for safety reasons.
"Cameras are put in places where there have been four fatalities or serious injuries in three years and people should be aware of these accident blackspots."
The new maps, which are supported by the police, combines information already available from the department of transport.
However, drivers are being warned that knowing where speed cameras are does not remove the need to drive safely on all UK roads.
