Shopping around can reduce women's car insurance premiums
Mon, 20 Jun 2005
Women should make sure that they shop around to secure the best deal on car insurance.
Female drivers are also being warned to ensure that their insurance company is not overcharging them because of the vehicle they drive.
Over recent years, 4x4s have become increasingly popular with women, however, some models can be nearly 40 per cent more expensive to insure than the average family saloon vehicle.
"For many families, 4x4s are fast becoming the preferred alternative to traditional family saloon cars - in 2004, we saw the number of 4x4s on the road increase by over 12 per cent," said Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket.com.
"On top of higher petrol costs you could be looking at an increase of 20 per cent on your insurance premiums."
Price comparison website insuresupermarket.com is also encouraging female drivers to shop around and not rely on women-only specialists in order to obtain the most competitive premium rate.
In some cases, cover was nearly twice as expensive with specialist female insurance companies.
