Scottish women 'most polite drivers'
Elderly Scottish women are the most polite drivers on the UK's roads, according to new research which suggests women's car insurance could be justifiably lower.
A poll conducted by a major insurer found that men in London are the most aggressive drivers, while drivers in the Midlands are most likely to break the speed limit.
The survey of 1,500 drivers also suggests that London drivers, who average 43 minutes getting to work compared with 24 minutes for Scots, are also the most stressed.
Less than one in five Scottish drivers overtake on the inside lane, compared with almost a third of Londoners, and motorists in the South West are least likely to drive through a red light, according to the study.
The insurance company noted that the findings shed light on how stress affects the way people drive and how safe they are on the roads.
Privilege managing director Ian Parker commented: "Factors such as the length of time drivers take in completing a journey, where they live and the volume of motorists on the road, all have a direct affect on stress levels and how safely they drive."
The relative car safety of women and men has long been identified as a key driver of women's and men's car insurance.
