Make sure your actions don't invalidate your women's car insurance policy
Wed, 13 Jul 2005
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) is warning women not to invalidate their insurance cover by being careless. The onset of summer means that many car windows and sunroofs are left open an attractive prospect for criminals. But if motorists fail to take proper security measures when leaving their car unattended they could find that their insurer will refuse to pay out. Graeme Trudgill, BIBA's technical services manager, said: "Cars are becoming increasingly difficult to steal thanks to advanced security systems and immobilisers, but during the summer months opportunistic thieves will be keeping an eye out for vehicles that are left open and unattended. "Insurers may not pay out as policies include a 'reasonable care' clause, whereby the insurer may reject a claim on the grounds of the policyholder being 'reckless' in not safeguarding the vehicle."
