Female motorists face dink drive bill
14 Dec 04
Female motorist convicted of drink drive offences are likely to face heavy penalties the AA has warned.
The car insurance firm says that women face much stiffer effects on their premiums than men.
Andrew Briscoe, managing director of AA Insurance Services, explained: "Women represent a lower average risk to car insurers, so they are rewarded with lower premiums than men.
"But, if a women gets convicted for drink-driving, that trust is undermined - not only will she be penalised for drink-driving, she will probably also lose the discount that she received for being female. So, despite paying less than a man driving the same car to start with, she will pay proportionately more in the period following the ban."
If a woman has not built up a no-claims bonus, she would pay £1,406 before a ban and more than £1,920 immediately after.
