Drive for equality extends to women's car insurance
Wed, 09 Nov 2005
Women are still battling for equality despite the introduction of the Sex Discrimination Act in 1975, claims a new report. Research conducted by campaign group Fawcett suggests that inequality does not just apply to wages but also products such as women's car insurance. The new report, entitled "Are we there yet? 30 years of closing the gap between women and men" concludes that whilst some areas of female treatment have improved, there is still a gap in the both the workplace and the home. It is estimated that women in full time employment earn around 18 per cent less than men, whilst females working part-time earn 40 per cent less than their male counterparts. "While there are many successes to celebrate, there is still a great deal further to go to close the inequality gaps between women and men," said the report. "We need to challenge the myth that gender equality has now been won and show that continuing gaps are a result not of free choices made by women and men but of an unequal society." Female motorists are being advised to shop around for insurance cover and remember to approach providers who offer specific women's car insurance products.
