Don't drive with invalid women's car insurance
Wed, 02 Nov 2005

Female motorists are being warned not to drive with invalid women's car insurance cover.

New figures suggest that around 1.48 million drivers on UK roads do not have a valid insurance policy, which means that other road users could be at risk.

The forthcoming Road Safety Bill is planning to tackle the growing problem of uninsured drivers by forcing all car owners to ensure they have a valid insurance policy or sign a document confirming they do not have any cover because their vehicle is currently off the road.

The police already have access to the Motor Insurance Database so that they are able to identify uninsured drivers whilst on patrol. The database holds the details of all registered vehicles in the UK and ensures that uninsured motorists can be identified.

At present motorists caught without insurance each year pay a £200 fine, with an endorsement to their licence.
