Don't also get an unfair women's car insurance too
Thu, 03 Nov 2005
A new report has found that UK women may be getting an unfair deal when it comes to financial services and products such as pensions and car insurance. Figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) shows that many women face lower rates of pensions in their retirement because they often earn too little or spend time out of employment with family responsibilities. The study also reveals that just 30 per cent of currently retiring women are entitled to a full state pension, with just 17 per cent receiving the full amount because of their own earnings. "The government has repeatedly admitted that womens pensions are a national scandal but has so far failed to act," said Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern. He added: "The current system is desperately unfair, rigid and inflexible for anyone with non-traditional working patterns." The government is being urged to address the continued inequality in financial circumstances and women are being encouraged to shop around to ensure they do not pay over the odds for products such as car insurance cover.
