Customers benefit from comparing servicing and women's car insurance costs
Wed, 08 Jun 2005
Customers could benefit from comparing the range of vehicle servicing and insurance options available.
The recent What Car? Vehicle servicing costs report shows a widening gap between the costs of having cars serviced - with many drivers making more to have checks carried out at franchised dealers.
A report by motoreasy showed that the majority of motorists pay an extra 33 per cent more to have vehicles serviced at a franchise - equalling an extra £1.2 billion each year.
"With more than 6,000 franchised and 12,000 independent garages registered in the UK, competition is already fierce," said David Gerrans of motoreasy.
"Yet the stigma surrounding the independent garage, especially those part of a national chain, is unwarranted."
"Annually service costs, together with an MOT are a necessary. However, nearly 1 in 3 cars will also need some form of remedial repair work, leaving owners with unexpected bills they hadn't accounted for. By going to a franchised dealer, motorists are simply paying more than they need to."
In particular, female drivers are encouraged to shop around for the best deals especially regarding insurance cover and are advised to get a range of quotes - not just from companies who claim to specialise in insurance for women motorists.
