Car insurance premiums on the rise
January 22 04
Nearly four in ten drivers say they have been hit with an increase in car insurance premiums, despite growing competition in the insurance marketplace.
A poll conducted by Sainsbury's Bank shows that 35 per cent of female and male drivers have found their insurance premiums steadily rising, with respondents recording an average increase of 8.9 per cent.
Indeed, a further 17 per cent of those polled said that their insurance premium had stayed the same, leaving just 24 per cent of respondents for whom premiums had fallen.
Joanne Mallon, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank, said that motorists should seek to exploit the growing competition in the sector.
"Competition has increased in the car insurance marketplace, which is good news for motorists if they are prepared to shop around for cover. They can increase the quality of their insurance and also reduce their premiums," she explained.
Those living in the Midlands had seen their premiums rise in the most instances, with 48 per cent of motorists interviewed seeing a hike in their car insurance premiums the last time they purchased cover.
