Car insurance providers to offer safety advice
Thu, 11 Nov 04
Motor insurance companies have been urged to offer more safety advice to customers to reduce the number of accidents on the region's roads.
There are 4,107 road accidents a day in the UK. Next year up to 200,000 people are expected to require hospital treatment because of car crashes, research has shown.
The cost to business was also highlighted, lost time caused by traffic injuries costs businesses throughout the UK £325 million.
Sainsbury's Car Insurance, which conducted the research, said insurers needed to highlight safety issues when selling insurance.
Joanne Mallon, manager at Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "We believe motor insurers have a unique and ongoing customer relationship and are therefore in a key position to offer policy features and practical advice to motorists to help encourage greater road safety."
